Albannach

Positive member comments about Albannach

I generally stay away from "posh" restaurants as in the past I have been to a few where the style takes first place and the food a poor second.

However, at  the Albannach the standard of ,food and service are all exceptionally high.  The decor is amazing and view from the windows across Trafalger Square is amazing.

I opted for haggis with neeps and tatties.(if you have not eaten haggis before, its like mince meat only more savoury and with a richer texture) and a side salad.

I asked the waiter to recommend a wine, and I had glass of their house red wine-I forget the name but it had Cabernet Sauvignon in it and it went excellently with the richness of the haggis.

Not having a starter (though the smoked haddock soup sounded very tempting), I had room left for a dessert.

I choose cranachan as it sounded very Scottish and though the description on the menu was a bit vague, it was a delicious combination of stewed berries (blackberries, raspberries, and red currants) topped with honey roasted oatflakes and cream.

Fantastic! I'll definately visit again, perhaps with the folks.

Ate here last April for my birthday. Food was lovely, discount was even lovelier. Service was ok, staff were a little standoffish and didn't seem to understand the concept of 'we have to be at the theatre in 10 minutes, please bring us the bill at the same time as dessert and we will settle up nice and quickly for you'. I had a cocktail and it was delicious and lethal. Not exactly traditional fare (strawberries don't belong in cranachan and never will) but very very tasty none the less. I'd definitely go back.

Went yesterday for lunch. Loved the modern decor. Looks like it would be a lively place for a night out at the weekend. Ate on the mezzanine floor overlooking the bar. Friendly and efficient staff but no scottish accent to be heard (stupid I know, but I was a little disappointed).

The food, yes pricey if paying full price (it is central London you know, and isn't that why we all bought taste cards, to go to places we would never normally consider due to cost?!), but a bargain with the card.

We had scallops and carpaccio for starters, and for main both had filet mignon (right posh we were). For dessert we shared a creme brulee and a chocolate tarte- delicious! Can't fault the food. Everything was beautifully cooked and presented and I thought portion size was just right.

We saved almost £50!  Albannach is definately worth a visit.

4 of us went there on Thursday night. The food portions are tiny for certain dishes (lamb for instance) and outrageously expensive at £18.50, so you have to have sides.

The tip is added calculated the full price before the discount, and although it's "optional" we gave him £1.20 less (as we didn't have anymore cash on us) and the waiter asked for the full tip, so we had to process the transaction on cards.

The website menu is not updated so a different menu operates in the restaurant. It's a nice posh looking restaurant, but there is a lot of space for improvement as far as I'm concerned.

I visited the Albannach on 20th May 09.  We had a table booked for 4 people.
On arrival we were greeted and shown to our table upstairs.  We were impressed with the atmosphere and decor of the restaurant.  We all made our orders and were very pleased with the selections.
If you order the meat dishes you have to order veg side dishes separately.

The only niggle we had with the Albannach was we found the service on the slow side, to order drinks and food we felt we were kept waiting for long periods of time. The restaurant wasnt
The food is highly priced (e.g. £24 Fillet steak - £6 All Desserts) but thats what the taste card is for! We saved 45+

I don't normally write reviews but having been to Albannach I had to say something.. It was just fantastic!

I don't go much on all things Scottish but I'm converted now! I had haggis for the first time which was simply delicious and would recommend anyone to try it. What really impressed me was their whisky selection and the very knowledgable bar man, who by the way was Scottish! Hurray a genuine place!

It's a place I sure to frequent again and thank my friend for his recommendation!

10 out of 10!

Went there on a friday night - my girlfriend has a taste card and a friend reccomended this place.
what a cool place it was too everybody wears kilts and are really friendly.

The food was to die for especially the beef fillet a little pricey at £24 but the taste card helped!
I'll definitely be going back.

went to this restaurant with a friend who has a taste card and it was fantastic - split into three different venues al in one.

The restaurant serves a beef fillet to die for and the staff were all fantastic.
the whisky selection was huge!

What a truly fabulous venue.  From the moment we walked in it really had that 'wow' factor; the chandelier is particularly impressive.

You'd expect it to be full of tourists too, but it was actually full of regular customers ~ always a good sign in such a touristy place.

The food and service were good too.  My only gripe would be the prices, but with the taste card it was reasonable enough.

We'll be going back

Excellent! I went last Saturday and all I can say is excellent, the service and the food. A bit expensive though, but with the card ok. Highly recomended

The best thing about Albannach is the athmosphere but I suppose this is the least you can expect given the steep price tag. The food was good but not great, however, we missed the Scottish elements. I strongly advice to order some side dishes as the vegetables on the mains come in microscopic portions. Staff were trying hard but this couldn't make up for the lack of training.

We visited on a Friday night and the open restaurant area was very noisy as the bar area is located just underneath - but the food was excellent! Very attentive service!

I called and booked that afternoon. The person I spoke to was very friendly and helpful.

The menu looked great. Expensive without the card, but great. The tables were nicely presented and the chairs were very nice. The staff were friendly. The card is valid here all week. The restaurant offers 50% off, so it good to take a group to.

One of my friends hit the nail on the head. It looked like a great place to go for lunch. If you do decide to go there for dinner on a busy night, ask for a table at the back of the restaurant.
